About Maria Valeria Bahamondes Makuch
Maria is a passionate and results-driven medical professional. She has international industry and academic experience in obstetrics, gynecology, midwifery, and sexual and reproductive health. From April 2021 to June 2023, Maria worked as a scientist and medical monitor at FHI 360 in Austin, Texas. There, she developed and reviewed clinical trial protocols, mainly for family planning projects. The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) in Cordoba, Argentina employed her from 2019 to 2021 as an international consultant and network coordinator. Between 2018 and 2021 she was involved in outpatient clinic care at Alive Health Center in Cordoba, Argentina. The Austin Area Birthing Center, Austin, Texas employed her from 2016 - 2018 as a birth assistant and certified professional midwife. Maria has also worked at the Center for Research in Reproductive Health of Campinas-CEMICAMP, Campinas, Brazil, and as an OBGYN MD on duty at Santa Casa de Vinhedo, Vinhedo, Brazil.
Maria's experience includes training sessions on family planning/reproductive health for medical students, residents in OBGYN, doctors, and nurses. She has proven success helping Latin women who struggle with cultural and language barriers by assisting with counseling and translating medical topics. Maria also has experience writing technical medical translations and reviewing and revising translations of medical documents.
Maria is a native Spanish and Portuguese speaker who is fluent in English and a clear, empathetic communicator.
Maria has a Ph.D. in Health Science, Gynecology, and Pathophysiology, and an MSc in OBGYN from the University of Campinas, Brazil. Her residency in OBGYN was at Materno Neonatal and Rawson Hospital, Córdoba, Argentina. Maria earned her medical degree from the School of Medicine, Federal University of Córdoba, Córdoba, Argentina. She is a certified professional midwife.
She loves helping Latin women who struggle with cultural and language barriers by assisting with counseling and medical topics.
